Providing Fresh and Updated Content
This aspect of using RSS feeds has already been touched upon in the previous section. Again by using RSS feeds you can add new and relevant content to your website without having to pay anything and without having to write anything. Aside from the new delivered to you by RSS being relevant you can be sure that the content is updated, after all the basic purpose of RSS feeds for most users is to get updated newsy content out to their users. In this regard some might be tempted to use RSS way too much to help their SEO efforts. Instead of just subscribing to feeds from other sources for updated content they also get too concerned about the content they generate for their own RSS feeds. Because of this they end up “updating” their websites more than necessary and offering fresh material that is not really of interest to users. For example a website selling pipes might use RSS feeds. However just to generate fresh content they end up using RSS for their highly technical product list sent out weekly. A weekly product list will NOT really interest users especially if the updates simply involve one product being sold out or a new product being added. Most probably the users won’t even spot the difference. A better option for websites like these would be add articles about or related to their products. If a product is sold out or they have a new feature product then they can also inform their users of this fact via articles. Remember RSS is meant for generating fresh and updated content, which in the end will benefit your SEO efforts. However, first and foremost a quality website will put its users’ needs as first priority always.
